What hiking options are there in southern Spain?

Hiking in Andalusia is great! An individual walking holiday is very possible , we are happy to help you with the interpretation of this. You will find some of the most beautiful hiking areas in Spain in our area. It is very diverse and for every level.

There are the boulevards along the coast, here you can walk for miles and it is over

generally all flat so for many people these walks are doable.

The nice thing about walking here is that you mostly walk along the sea, which is always a good idea

gives a nice view and usually brings a cooling breeze. Also come

you'll find plenty of restaurants and bars along the way where you can grab a bite and a

drink. It is therefore not necessary to bring your own food and drink.

There are also beautiful walks in the mountains. Different levels can be found here, some condition is required here. However, you get a lot in return, the nature is fantastic and the views are beautiful. Usually you will find peace on these walks and you will not meet many other people. We should not forget the challenge of reaching a mountain top, which is great and feels like a victory for many.

In the mountains you mainly walk through nature, so don't forget to bring food and drinks and enjoy a picnic with panoramic views. If you encounter a village on the way, there is of course always the possibility to have something to eat. On these tours you generally end up in the real Spain. Small white villages stuck to the mountain, orchards with olive trees, people who still use donkeys and usually friendly greetings.

When on a walking holiday in Andalusia?

The weather in Andalusia is usually sunny all year round. This is great weather for a walk, although it can be very hot in high season, especially in the mountains. Then there is of course the possibility to go hiking early in the morning or in the evening, but then you will not get to the long tours. The ideal time to come for a walk is from October to April.

Markings hiking trails Spain

  • Longer distances are Grandes Recorridos, or GR's. These are red / white. Minimum distance: 50 kilometers, so for advanced riders!

  • Shorter distances are called pequeños Recorridos, or PRs. These are yellow / white and are just day trips.

  • Other types of hiking trails in Spain can of course have other colors.

October/ November

The autumn (October / November) often also gives good weather. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. You can still find figs, almonds and grapes in the countryside everywhere. The coast becomes calmer again, which is also easier to walk.

In October there is the Marbella four days, this is the sister of the Nijmegen four days and is organized by Dutch people. The distances are ten, twenty or thirty kilometers. The routes run through different parts of Marbella, through the city, nature and along the beach. It is also possible to walk for less than four days. Afterwards there will be live music and fun at Plaza del Mar. The price for four days of participation is € 63 if you register online. If you decide to register yourself in the administration tent during the event, you will pay € 68 for all four days. The price per individual walking day is € 20 online and € 25 on the spot.

December, January, February

The months of December, January and February generally have many hours of sunshine.

During the day it often becomes twenty degrees and the evening temperature

can sometimes drop to a minimum of eight degrees, these are pleasant hiking temperatures.

In winter the sun rises around half past seven and sets again around half past six, these are

good days for beautiful trips. Highly recommended is from mid-January

until mid-February. In our mountains the almond trees are in bloom

so that the whole valley turns a light pink.

March/ April

In the spring it is a good time to walk everywhere and that is no different in Andalusia. The temperatures are not very high yet, but the sun is already shining. Now is the time when the mountains are full of wild flowers and it is still green everywhere. The almond trees have leaves again and the olives are like little balls in the trees. The birds are chirping and are busy making their nests. The days are getting longer again, which means that you have more hours to make beautiful trips. The sea is getting warmer again so after a walk on the boulevards it is nice to take a dip. It is already a bit busier on the coast, but that also brings fun.
